One Tough Sled

Joe's custom Sigum sled, a few more logs and it will be just about full

Every tough snowgo needs a tough sled. We have tested time and time again the arctic famous "Sigum" sleds. Yes, these tough sleds built by Northern Sled Works are as tough as they come. I know they are actually called Siglin but sometimes I like to make up my own words. That is a whole other blog.

I have overloaded, pulled these sleds on bare rock, run over, twisted in half, and many other ridiculous things and these sleds and they have kept on working.

Being hard on gear I thought I would make my own sled from the same UHMW that is used by the company. I am here to tell you, leave it to the professionals to make the top quality gear. I ended up paying more to make my own and came out with a sub standard sled.

The ones made by Northern Sled Works in Alaska definitely win a Joe Proof award. I will say that after about 3 years of hard use you should look into investing in a new hitch. The UHMW hitch are the only weak link in these sleds. I think a sled that is used normally would not experience the slight flaw in the hitch but we are not here for normal use, are we?

These sled have low friction and can be used to transport anything across most all terrain. These sleds were even used to pull a crashed Casa cargo plane off the ice in Northwest Alaska.
